Sportbikes / Bike not starting after cutting out
« on: July 02, 2011, 01:30:27 AM »
Dear all

After getting my bike running i was on the motorway where i heard squealing noise coming from the engine.

I pulled over to check nd it seemed ok then after 5 miles the bike cut out again as if something had popped in the engine. I have since looked at the moving parts and everything seems to be moving when cranking over. There is plenty spark and no problems with fuel and there is plenty compression.

When turning over on the starter it seems to be turning too fast although it wont start. The oil filter has been cleaned out and there was some metal debris but none that would acount for a major failure of any component.

Any ideas

How many connectors has your CDI box got is it 1 or 2.

I had to replace the cdi box on my zongshen and the wiring loom to convert the bike to 1 solid black connector.
I would check the stator as well to make sure it's not short circuit.

2 common faults on these bikes mines only had 700 miles on before the cdi packed in. There is an additonal device on mine that was controlled from the cdi unit that is quite prone to blowing them.

The 1 connector cdi units can be purchased from the uk quite easliy

Stator replaced

Wiring loom replaced to accept another type of CDI unit..

Guesss what

3 turns of the starter and the thing kicked into life. Took it for a 10  mile run and it seemed to be ok.

Will do an oil change tomorrow as its been in the garage all winter. :)

Thanks for the info.

I removed the stator from the bike and it clearly was short circuit.

I replaced it but it now looks like the cdi unit has blown. Chap i spoke to in the UK seemed knowledgeable and has says that the cdi has blown probably because of the environemt protection device on the bike.

I am know trying to source a wiring loom and cdi unit and getting rid of the environment protection device.

Anyhow its sarted snowing in Scotland again so im in no rush.  ;D

Winters came with a vengance today with 6 inches of snow.

Yes the clutch switch works ok as when you pull it in with the bike in gear it will crank but if it no it will not crank. A supplier in the uk has managed to source a cdi unit which was on the recent import manifest but didnt arrive. Failing that im going to replace the wiring loom and the common cdi unit (8pin) once the better weather comes or whichever is quicker once the cdi from china arrives

Here is a good site to identify the parts for the zongshen

http://www.zongshen.hr/PARTS/ZS250GS/ZS250GS_motoparts.htm

http://www.zongshen.hr/PARTS/ZS250GS/ZS250GS_agregat.htm

Which clearly identifies the parts with zong part numbers which is clearly different on my bike for some of the parts

Do you have a part number for this filter ?

What do you do with the hoses on the air box ?

Mines is a weird setup as the hoses from the crank goes through an environment protection devices then into a 3 way carbon filter one then onto the air-box the other hose on the air-box goes to another vent on top of the engine.
