Speedo problem is fixed...you'll never guess what the issue was.....

The guy I bought the bike from apparently tried to reverse the mileage or just not show as many miles because the speedo cable had been reversed. Thanks for the help again.a
That sounds like the sort of guy you don't want to buy a bike from. At least it's working now.

Ah good one. That could be useful for spares one day. Just on the outside the engine cover of the Kawa does'nt look as much like the Zong as the Yamaha does. But you're the mechanic so I'll take your word for it!

Yeah. Resale would be something to consider. Reliability has been mixed. Some like me have no problem in over 4000 mile. I just change the oil and filter every 1000 mile. I also check usual stuff like chain clean and tension and rear wheel align. Clean air filter occassionally.  Nothing else touched. Some other users say they have blown engines up! It looks like the engine is a clone from a early Kawasaki or Yamaha. It uses the same parts as other established brands. Don't forget that Z'shen don't make everything on the bike. The carb is made in Japan for example.
Resale wise, I look at it this way. If I bought a Honda/Yammy etc I could lose a thousand on resale, and I could lose a thousand on this bike. But I've still only lost a thousand even though percentage wise the Zong loses half its value but the other bikes lose say 20 percent.

Haven't had any speedo problem. Mine was a bit loose at both threaded ends of the cable. Try tightening it up at those points. I found out about the looseness when cleaning the lower end of the cable and found a fair bit of lubricant leaking onto the cable. The other end was also loose. You should be able to get your hand in there under the dash/guages without removing any plastic. Otherwise it could be broken,  get on to Zongshen USA - if you're in US. The new cable shouldn't cost much.

Sportbikes / Re: Battery Question, need some help

On the flickering battery light, I just remembered I had the same thing on mine once. I t happened after I had the seat off checking things out and cleaning up. I must have accidentally disconnected the connector for the generator and while riding I was also getting the red battery charge light flickering on the dash. It would come on all the time while idling and flicker while driving normally. Aquick check of terminal connections under the seat and I found the connector to the generator was partly unplugged. Pressed it fully home and no more problem!! Easy fixed!!

Don't use a car charger-they're too strong. Must get a proper bike battery charger. I hear thet the car charger can cook the little bike battery!!We have 12v negative gnd electrics. Undo the terminals from the battery and then remove your battery and recharge out of the bike.

Yeh Zyph I don't have a problem with the mirrors....just try bending your elbows in toward each other,  that improves the view. Otherwise my arms do kinda get in the way. I'm happy with the mirrors now that i've altered my riding style a bit. 8)

Thanks for reply MS Rider. How do you clean the paper filter element? Do you wash it in petrol or something? From the pic you send it looks like your filter is washable type. Mine is made of paper.

???Anyone been able to find oil filter cartridge aftermarket part eg by Fram or Vesrah or Ryco etc for our ZS250GS bikes?? I'd like to buy one from an auto parts supplier other than Zongshen direct but i'm having trouble with the cartridge number to cross reference.
