i think zongshen china doesn't have strict quality control of their products thats why some units are ok some are not, or maybe the problem lies with the local assemblers?

Sportbikes / Re: Survey: Who's put the most mileage on their GS250?

Please post how many miles you currently have on your ZS GS250, I am trying to determine what kind of life I can expect to get out of this bike.  I plan to ride it quite a lot, about 100 miles per day, 5 days a week.  I have a 2005 Ninja 250 at the moment with 28,000 miles on it to give you an idea.  I just want to know if I should try out a ZS, or stick with the tried and true Ninja 250?

Note: Please don't post your # of miles if you see that somebody else has already posted a number that is higher than yours.

Thanks Everybody!

mileage on my gs250 is 11,000kms+...no engine trouble since i bought it (lucky?) just some minor diy repairs like wheel bearings, flasher relay some loose wirings. maybe if want more fuel savings go with gs250, for more speed stick with the ninja.

yes you can swap the guages except for the gear indicator on the z200 and replaced w/ low battery indicator on the 250gs

agree with sir 250gs, possibly water problems in tank and carb just have them cleaned...then you might want to install a fuel filter inline between tank and carb, it will save you from stalling headaches, i had installed on mine a transparent fuel filter so when i see water or rust particles inside the filter i just replace it...

thats right the second pic is an air pump or secondary air induction device, and it gets the fresh air it needs from the small air filter (1st pic) to mix with any unburned fuel from the exhaust and redirecting it again to the carb via inlet manifold for secondary burning for cleaner exhaust (emission compliance)...when that small air filter looks dirty just replace or clean with compressed air... just leave it open, if plugged or dirty will make your air/fuel mix rich and will affect performance....

you might have a problem with your regulator/rectifier that black box w/ heat fins behind the rear left side fairing, its job is to convert AC voltage from your stator to DC voltage (rectifies it), then maintain its output to 13+v to 14+v to keep the battery constantly charged (regulator part) when engine is running, if its leaks current then it will drain your new battery overnight or a few hours...check also the connectors for loose connections...hth

what seals are they referring to? oil all over the magneto or stator is normal on our bikes, the stator is oil cooled so it is constantly bathed in oil....better get your bike back

If you prefer diy work this might help….remove fairings and gas tank for more space, open the crankshaft bolt cover and flywheel timing mark cover with wide tip flat screwdriver, put some rug so not to damage the chrome covers, rotate crankshaft counterclockwise using 16mm socket wrench until the T mark aligns w/ a notch inside the peekhole  and piston is on top dead center (TDC) you can verify by removing the sparkplug…if a screwdriver sinks on the sparkplug hole, rotate another 180-360deg until piston is on topmost position and timing marks are aligned…use your feeler guage to check the gaps, the manual here says 0.07mm for intake and 0.10mm for exhaust…loosen the locknut, and feeler guage must have a bit of drag then tighten…replace cover o-rings if available (from auto supply stores)…hth

zong2005, look under the guages and pull those rubber grommet-like connectors with brown and green wire, should be 4 or 5 of them, auto parts store should have them some cars use these type, i think they're called wedge bulb...if you want to add more you could try wedge-type LEDs.
