Bike sold for $800 yesterday...  Only a $1600 loss, (lol) but I have some cash for christmas now. I did not really expect to get much more for a non running bike. I think next time I will get a Honda or something. I dont want to say bad things about this bike but...  Seems to me ya get what ya pay for.

I'm 180 pounds and Id have to say that on my bike the comfort speed is 45 to 55 mph, I can go 65 or (if I push it hard) 70 mph but the bike feels like its running way to hard and I did not feel comfortable running it that hard for more then a minute or so. My drive to work is 45 mph all the way. I think this is mostly an around town kinda bike and NOT built for the highway.

I'm still tryin to get my bike registered here in Georgia, I went to the tags office yesterday and they told me I had to go to the police station and get a T-22B inspection form filled out by a officer, they gave me the form and it looks like the big thing on it is the NHTSA decal or label, The form states that this label should be located on or near the steering post, I have looked on the bike and can find no label that says NHTSA on it. It may be that its the aluminum label located just behind the steering post, this label has the vin number as well as some other information on it. I will find out Monday when I go.

I used Geico, I called from the dealer and was done in less then 10 minutes. I was charged $42 to start and payments for 6 months of $23. I had the option of payin the whole thing at once. The policy is for a year. I used my check card to pay over the phone. They will give you a policy number that makes you legal untill you get the cards in the mail.

Yours may differ a little in price but I think most places are the same.

I used wd40 and an old tooth brush to get the rust off and then sprayed a towel with it and wiped both wheels (just the metal part) and it looks good again. Lubed the chain with gear oil (wiping off the excess). I will do the rest this weekend, (wax and such).

I also bought a sport bike cover for it that looks like it will work well. Ties and locks at the bottom although I don't get the lock part, Seems like someone could just cut it off.

Thanks for the help :)

I got it Thursday July 3rd, A little over a week ago. But keep in mind that it has rained EVERY day sence I got it (ALOT) and I really dont think the bike is at fault in any way. Its metal and will rust in the rain (treated or not). Im looking for ways to slow the process or even prevent it, And correcting it.

Sportbikes / Rain Rain Rain , Will it ever end?
« on: July 14, 2008, 08:58:19 AM »
Ive been caught riding in the rain and although I don't like It I can get by and know to slow down and use caution among other things. I live in a apartment with no garage to store my bike in, I bought my bike just over a week ago and it has rained EVERY day sence, I'm already starting to see the effect the rain is having on my bike. The sprocket is showing small dots of rust and some fading of the black color. I'm going to get a cover today but I have read that a cover could make it worse. Does anyone else have this problem and what can be done?

I'm posting a couple pics to try and show the rust below.

Sportbikes / Re: Assembly Questions
« on: July 11, 2008, 06:34:47 PM »
When I test drove my bike at the dealer I also smelled that burning smell and asked the guy what it was, He replied that all new bikes did that for the first 30 or 40 miles or so and its just the new engine.

I think with just about anything you have to assemble (shelves, tables or bikes) there are extra screws dowels ect...

I also have two rubber hoses from the carb that don't go anywhere and my bike came already assembled.

Turning the key to its on position (without starting the engine) will turn on all my lights and gauges unless I turn them off with there controls, Turning the key on (I think) turns on the entire electric system and you should have access to turn on or off everything that is electric. Meaning that I turn the key to on and I can turn the headlight off or on and the same with turn signals. You surly should be able to turn on the hazard lights without the engine running.

Don't be sorry, that is what I was looking for. My brother lives around an hour and a half away and I was thinking about riding over there this weekend, Its all in town roads and stop N go traffic, I was concerned that my bike was still to new for a longer ride, It has around 150 total miles on it now and the user manual says 600km I think before its broke in.

And I agree that quick gear changes (as opposed to longer ones) is a big help, And I have never had a problem keeping up with traffic either.  For awhile I thought the engine was running a bit high for the speed I was going (in 5th gear)(around 55 mph and higher) But I now think that its because I have always had a cruiser type bikes (6 gears) and never a sport type with 5 gears, I keep thinking its time to change gears again, lol.

I do downshift at almost every light and have never skided yet, I think downshifting is a good Idea, Sometimes the light will turn green and its easy to continue on from what ever gear your in, I think its also easy on the breaks and in general good for the bike.

The only real problem I have had is today I noticed one of the allen screws holding the handle bars on was missing, My bike came already assembled so I'm not sure if it came out while riding or it was never there. I went to the place I bought it and they gave me one.

I have also noticed (it could just be me) that the bike seems to be running much better now then when I first got it. It only had 2 miles when I got it. The gears seem to change, um... better or more easley, I seem to be getting better performance in the lower gears and I swear the gas mileage is a bit better. Maybe Im just getting more used to it.

Thanks for responding Xanthmo

It only takes me 20 minutes or so to get to work. I was wondering if anyone has taken there bikes out for a longer ride, Like maybe 2 hours or 3?

Its just my thoughts but...
I would think that running this bike (or any 250 Bike) at 65 to 70 mph for more then just a minute or so would cause harm to the engine. When i bought mine I was told that the top speed was 65 or 70 mph, And its NOT recommended to run it that hard,(especially when new). I always knew it was a around town kinda bike and likes to be run at 45 to 55 mph, I do not believe it to be a interstate bike at all. The speed limit from my house all the way to work is 45 mph so its perfect for me. I would suggest getting a 400 at least for 65 to 70, If I remember my old 400 LTD had a top speed of 120 and it was ok to cruise it at 65 to 70 (but NOT 120), I dont think that top speed is cruising speed.  Its just my thoughts...
