Best use M/Cycle  oil .15w40 says user manual. 5 litres for $30 bucks . Can use SF or SG grade car oil but check NO FRICTION MODIFIERS stated in formula. Any car oil rated SH SL SM SN etc WILL contain FM's and is therefore NO GOOD due to clutch slippage issues. Bike only needs 1 litre or so for a change. Oil filter coarse one in drain plug, fine paper or surg mesh one installed approx 2 oclock pos on RHS crank case, watch for 2 O rings on removing the 3 bolts/screws on small cover plate. If surgi mesh type just wash off with petrol and DRY then reinstall. If paper filter used then THROW AWAY. Don't try clean a paper filter.

Don't ever run the engine with the battery disconnected. I don't know whats wrong with your bike but the cutout switches in the clutch lever and side stand should cut the engine straight away.  Hope this helps.

Well I took it into the shop, turns out there was some bad wiring that was causing the turn signals to take on extra power.  Because of this they were in like a overcharge state and wouldnt work unless at high rpm's (so basically not at all).  Cost roughly 300 to get new signals and wiring done.  Works no problem now.

Probably got too much water on your bike and corroded the wiring connectors due to leaving bike out uncovered in rain too much.
Buy a cover for $20 bucks and use it.

A 250 ninja is a high performance bike that performs better than a lot of bikes with nearly double its cc. It is banned as a learner  bike in a number of countries due to its high power/weight ratio. His bike is probably a twin carb setup with a highly tuned engine. You wont keep up with your mates bike on a 250gs.

70 is a bit slow for this bike. Mine will do better than 85 , but not much more. 85 is about tops without mods.

A cb250 will be about the same as this bike I would think. Check the oil level in your gs after the dealer serviced it, i'll bet he's over filled the oil. That will detract from your performance for starters.

As for your dealer Go to someone else.

If you have a bit of bike experience then a 250gs will not be a grand experience. But as a preferred learner, first bike it does the job well.

Yeah I agree 100pc with this reply. Ninja is very high performance bike and is banned as a learner in some countries due to high power to weight ratio. Top speed Zong about (quoted)-140KPH=85MPH. Most countries you can't ride faster than 100-110kph on roads anyway, so Zong should do job ok. If learner with no bike experience you wont want to get a Ninja anyway.
Get some experience with a more moderate bike like a 250 ZS or other make. Don't kill yourself too quick!!

Yep. Side stand up, safety cut out switch also may be switch in clutch so hold clutch in. Pull out enricher ((marked as choke)) lever 1/2 way, first notch, DONT touch accelerator with this carb as you operate electric start as it is a CV type and you will increase difficulty of starting, then operate starter and starts first pop every time. After start up warm engine with fast 2000-2500rpm for a minute or so then GO.

Sportbikes / Re: Cant get it to run right!!! HELP PLEASE??
« on: March 28, 2017, 01:11:36 AM »
Hi, im new  :)
I've had this bike for a little over a year and have had some problems with it. I know its probably what I deserve for getting such a cheap bike, haha. I just put a new battery in it and it won't start. the starter motor seems to be working fine but it doesn't seem to be catching to start the engine. Recently when im riding it will gradually loose power until it dies. The battery was dead at that point and that's why I put in a new one, but I haven't been able to get it started since. There is fuel in the tank and so it's not something obvious like that. ive also rebuilt the carb a million times and checked to make sure that all the hoses where on right there is a honey coat inside the carburator that wont come off even with carb cleaner im out of ideas!
Any help on what might be wrong with my bike would be much appreciate, thanks!

Gradually losing power and flattening battery sounds more like a bad stator. Battery is charged up and running flat after about an hour, then stator is probably not charging or Rectifier faulty. Test it or replace. Carb sounds like fuel contamination. Get a new one for less than a hundred US dollars.

Sportbikes / Re: 2006 Zongshen Still Going ...
« on: March 28, 2017, 01:03:05 AM »
Almost 2016, and my 2006 GS250 is still running strong, cross my fingers, but I have never had an issue with it.  There isn't much talk about them anymore, anyone else still riding a GS out there?

Still have mine. Same thing as you just a couple of batteries due to lack of riding, otherwise ALL OK no other issues, No rust or corrosion, No carb problem. This ZS250 should go for 10's of thousands of Km !! I see some advertised with 75000Km or more on clock and still going strong!

Sounds like a bad battery. Don't muck around trying to recharge. Wasting time. Put a volt meter across battery, if less than 12.5v then battery is suss and will probably start bike at that volts but wont hold charge. Check volts after a kick start and 1/2 hour ride. Then recheck after 1 hour if battery volts dropped 1/2 volt or more toss it away.
You can leave a good battery for months and still start bike straight away if climate temp is mild to warm. I've left mine for 6 months or more and it starts straight away.

Strange problem. Try changing oil with correct type for this bike just in case you have a slipping clutch caused by wrong oil type.

As for Zongshen, try info in this link. This contact seems to respond ok.http://zongshenforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=187.0

Usual battery for this bike is a low maint TET brand battery that should get yoiu 3-4 yrs trouble free use, so you shouldn't feel that the battery is inferior quality. Mines 4 y.o and still 100% good. STarts 1st pop everytime.
As for the poor acceleration, what is the spark plug like? Is it wet/oily or black sooty looking? Is the engine missfiring at all?  HAve you changed the oil recently ? Maybe the wrong type or is the oil level correct? Check those things.

Re the chain, push up on the mid point and measure the slack is within 15-25mm. Briefly, the way to adjust the chain stroke to bring it within spec if its too loose: you need to loosen the rear axle nut (RHS) just off the tight position and move the wheel  rearward by way of the chain adjusters by exactly the same distance on both sides of the axle to take up the slack. You need an Allen wrench to move the chain adjusters.  Measure the distance on both sides of the swingarm axle slots so that you don't mess up the wheel alignment. Otherwise you'll end up wearing your chain and cogs out as well as causing your steering to be affected. Once the adjustment is correct, you need to  retighten the axle nut to within the range of 85-95 Nm. You MUST use a torque wrench to retighten the axle nut.

If you have any doubt about doing this procedure properly then best get someone to help. There's no room for error with this adjustment, so don't experiment.Good luck.
